I had to stop by and share some love because this place is phenomenal. Service, food, drinks and ambience are always on point. My husband and I have brought our friends from the south here to try their cheese grits and they rave every time. I've had almost everything on the menu, nothing is bad. Just go. You won't be disappointed.
Came here on a whim with my friend to catch up! 900 Grayson is truly a hidden gem, though perhaps not so hidden, given its feature on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Regardless, this spot feels underrated, and for a brunch place to sport no wait times while serving excellent food is a rare commodity in the Bay. I ordered The Charlie, their take on an ahi sandwich. Lately, I've been on a tuna kick, and this was the paragon of excellence. The tuna developed a beautifully crusty exterior while maintaining a bright red hue inside. It also featured the quintessential Bay Area Acme bun which I believe is the pinnacle of great bread. Honestly, this was probably one of the best tuna sandwiches I've ever had. And, the side salad that came with it, another standout, with its brilliant yellow beets that I insisted my friend try. I could wax poetic about these beets all day long, so sweet and incredibly fresh. I thought I'd regret skipping the fries, but the salad was just too good that I didn't miss them, a rare occurrence for me. My friend ordered The Demon Lover, their whimsical take on chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, this was pedestrian. The tenders were only a slight step up from Dairy Queen's frozen tenders, and the particularly skinny waffle wasn't anything noteworthy. We were in and out in pretty much an hour, though I did wish that we had more time to catch up. Toward the end, the waitstaff started eyeing our table which made us feel a bit rushed. Still, the food is reasonably priced and delicious, so I guess I can't complain much (especially with zero wait times). For sure will return !
900 Grayson was phenomenal. Ordered the Demon Lover (Chicken & Waffles). You have a choice of syrup, gravy, or both. I ordered both. Chicken was seasoned well and waffle was soft. Overall very flavorful. 900 Grayson also has their own sauces that elevate the flavor. The ambience of this place was amazing. Music was pretty great too. The decor, incredible. Customer service was impeccable. My partner never once had to ask for a refill on his tea. Staff was attentive and polite. You can tell that the people who run 900 Grayson truly care about their customers and their restaurant.
If you know me then you know I live for chicken & waffles. I returned to 900 Grayson after some time for their Demon Lover. Their fried chicken was crispy yet tender, but it didn't have much flavoring to me. So, I recommend hot sauce (if you like spicy), and ordering both the gravy + syrup, which is an additional cost but worth it. The waffles were light and created a nice balance with the chicken and gravy + syrup. Overall, a cute neighborhood eatery with tasty food and friendly service.
Another Diners Drive Inns and dive joint under my belt. I'm so glad I had an opportunity to eat at 900 Grayson. This small unassuming restaurant has a great old school appeal. Its tasteful homey interior and interesting decorations are warm and welcoming. The atmosphere is very comforting and so was the menu. A simple selection of interesting creations done very well. I was impressed with the service and how personable our sever was. He was as cool as the ambiance. If you have one chance to visit a triple D joint in Berkeley make it 900 Grayson.
I recently visited 900 Grayson for weekday breakfast, which is offered until 11 am. It's a cute spot in Berkeley with both indoor seating and an outdoor patio. Because we came on a Tuesday morning around 10:30, it wasn't crowded at all and we had a lot of options for seating. We opted for the patio as it was a lovely day out. My friend ordered the popular Demon Lover ($16), which is their signature fried chicken and waffles dish. I took a couple bites and thought it was solid. The gravy was quite rich though; I was surprised to learn it's a vegetarian (onion-based) gravy. For myself, I got the the Tom Boy ($16), which comes with poached eggs, potato, apple and parsnip corned beef hash, and white toast. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit disappointing as it felt like separate pieces combined together rather than a cohesive dish. It was still good but just not what I was expecting. I ate the toast with their home made mixed berry jam and that was delicious. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at 900 Grayson. I'm glad we came on a weekday so there was no wait.
Simple and sweet brunch. Friend recommended this place and we decided to give it a try. Plenty of street parking nearby. A lot of people seem to enjoy their fried chicken & waffles, and the gravy really elevates the whole thing. I opted for their tofu scramble which still had a nice spice & flavor to it as a lighter option. I also ordered a soju mojito which kicked off my day. It was balanced and boozy just the way I like it. The prices were very reasonable for brunch and not breaking the wallet, something I enjoy when I attempt to imagine I could make it at home. A small menu, but a mighty one. The inside is very homey and cozy with some outdoor seating. Service was fast and attentive the whole time.
I came here on a Saturday morning ~9 AM with my friend for brunch! Outside, there were some street parking spots available. We were seated inside and did not have to wait. There were also some outdoor seating options as well. The inside is feels cozy and homey. The server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the demon lover with the maple syrup and gravy. The gravy was delicious and creamy. Honestly, gravy is my favorite part of any meal and the chicken was a vehicle for the gravy lol. The chicken was moist but a bit bland. The waffle was tasty with the chicken. They also offered some homemade hot sauces for the chicken and those were also good. Overall, I think this place is a West Berkeley gem. I would come back to try other things on their menu.
The gravy is so so good! I mean the chicken is too. But the gravy!! My son got the chicken and waffle with gravy. I didn't want to have so much carbs today so I ordered the chicken Ala carte and gravy. I am so glad they have that option because it was the perfect portion for me. While the chicken was beautifully fried and tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed the thick gravy! The texture and flavor was heavenly - probably loaded with heavy cream and fat. Haha. It was a full house here during lunch. Street parking, but didn't have trouble finding a spot. Chill lunch spot.
While visiting, our friends encouraged us to plan to have breakfast at 900 Grayson, a unique breakfast & lunch restaurant located at 900 Grayson in Berkeley! While they are famous for their Demon Lovers breakfast: fried chicken with waffles! We decided to attempt to have the lighter, Potter Creek: scrambled eggs with gouda cheese, hash browns and delicious toast! The service is impressive with our coffee being refilled before we had a chance to ask! Although it was a cold and rainy day, customers kept coming in and at 9 am, their intimate dining area was packed! They also have two very cool cool coin operated kid friendly old fashioned mechanical toys on the wall. For $.25 cents you can watch a chef prepare eggs or maybe pizza or get your fortune! We will definitely return on our next visit!
